Ohio's State Tests in Social Studies Grades 4, 6, HS American History, HS American Government
The Ohio Department of Education has released a set of draft test specification documents, including a description of the assessment components and item types, assessment blueprints, and item specifications, to help educators and the general public better understand the design of Ohio-developed Social Studies assessments. These documents are used to guide the development of Ohio's New State Tests. Note: The Teacher's Guides on the right-hand side of this page are adapted and condensed from the state test specs.
Graduation Requirements Update (6-12-14)
House Bill 487 updated Ohio’s graduation requirements to ensure that all students are ready for success in college and work. As a result, the Class of 2017 (10th-graders in the 2014-2015 school year) will be the last students to take the current Ohio Graduation Tests. The new requirements take effect with the class of 2018 (ninth graders in Fall 2014). Additionally, every student will have the opportunity to take a nationally-recognized college admission exam free of charge in the 11th grade. The honors diploma remains another option for students.
Ohio Graduation Test 2014-15 and Beyond
The Ohio Graduation Tests for social studies for 2014-2015 and beyond will be dually aligned with the focus on American History and Modern World History. However, in order to maintain the test requirements (blueprints) of the social studies OGT, there will be a few questions from the following 2002 benchmarks (that are also aligned to Ohio’s New Learning Standards): People in Societies A-C; Geography A-C; Economics A-B; Government A-B; Citizens Rights & Responsibilities A-B.
